Moratuwa - The Proteas wrapped up a convincing, 108-run win over a Sri Lankan Board President’s XI in Moratuwa on Thursday.

Having been sent in by Dinesh Chandimal, the tourists compiled 297 for nine in their innings, Hashim Amla bringing up the first century of the tour. Amla retired after a reaching a classy 104 off just 79 balls, with 16 fours and a six.

Faf Du Plessis and a motoring AB de Villiers added contrasting contributions of 41, before the former holed out, and the blitzkrieg De Villiers retired. JP Duminy then ensured the visitors posted an impressive total, with a well-paced 54 off 56 balls.

In reply, the invitation side lost wickets at regular intervals as Dale Steyn struck in the very first over, and the rest of the attack chipped in with breakthroughs. Morne Morkel helped himself to two scalps in three balls, while the fielding unit was also impressive, with De Villiers and Du Plessis taking fine catches.

Morkel ended with figures of three for 29, while Aaron Phangiso and Wayne Parnell snared two wickets apiece, with every bowler getting a chance to bowl. The opening one-day international is in Colombo on Sunday.
