The Proteas deny sowing division in the England dressing room by leaking the Kevin Pietersen text messages.

This after insinuations by England great Mike Atherton that the South African camp leaked KP’s text messages to get the SA-born batsman dropped.

Atherton, writing in his column, said part of the England selectors’ reasons for dropping KP was that it would prevent SA from releasing further information about the texts.

He says: “The fear would have been the ability of South Africa to release any potentially damaging information during a Test match, just as they shrewdly released the texts into the public domain in the first place.”

CSA released a statement that denied any malice, while others laughed it off.

Dale Steyn, implicated as one of the recipients of Pietersen’s messengers along with AB de Villiers, brushed it off by saying: “Ag, who cares?”

Meanwhile, Proteas batsmen Alviro Petersen, Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis are all expected to shake off injuries to be fit for the final Test at Lord’s, which starts on Thursday.

SA lead the series 1-0 and will dethrone the English at the top of the test rankings if they avoid defeat.
