Dale Steyn became the fourth South African bowler to take 300 Test wickets in the Newlands Test against New Zealand on Wednesday.

Only Shaun Pollock (421), Makhaya Ntini (390) and Alan Donald (330) have taken more wickets for the Proteas.

Steyn’s 300th wicket came his 61st Test for his country, at an average of 23.8.

In his career, he has taken 18 five-wicket hauls with his best figures against India in Nagpur in early 2010 where he took 7/51.

Going into the match on 299 wickets, he removed Doug Bracewell’s middle stump for his 300th wicket leaving New Zealand reeling at 31/7 - Sapa
