Johannesburg - According to reports Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn still seems to be heading to Glamorgan to turn out in the Natwest T20 Blast in England.

Steyn is said to be a target for Glamorgan who are close to signing the 32-year-old for the first half of their T20 campaign which begins next week.

Cricket SA did not select Steyn for the upcoming Proteas One Day International series in the West Indies starting in the first week of June. The selectors said Steyn was not selected in order to keep him fresh for Test cricket.

It appears, however, CSA will not be able to prevent Steyn turning out for the English side. Glamorgan captain and former Proteas teammate of Steyn, Jacques Rudolph, said Steyn would be a welcome addition to the team.

“If he was coming - which I think there's a good possibility of - Dale's a very experienced campaigner, he's a good friend of mine and I think he will add a lot to our bowling unit,” said Rudolph.

“He's still got a bit of pace, and I think with his experience of playing international cricket over so many years, it will be good for some of our young players to learn from him.”

The only hurdle standing in the way of signing Steyn was a visa problem said Rudolph. “His IPL team is doing really well and there's still a bit of a visa issue. We've got to wait and see but I don't think he's playing at the moment for his IPL team. All in all, if he can join us, it would be brilliant.” - African News Agency (ANA)
