The Proteas received a great pre-season boost with ODI vice-captain Hashim Amla leading the way as the ICC Awards nominees were revealed.
Amla has been nominated in all five catagories in the men’s section of the awards, while ODI captain AB de Villiers made the cut in four catagories.
De Villiers and Amla were both nominated for the Cricketer of the Year (the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy), Test Player of the Year and ODI Player of the Year awards, while Amla’s also made the People’s Choice Award list.
Batsman Jacques Kallis is just behind them with nominations in the Cricketer of the Year and Test Player of the Year catagories. He is joined by Dale Steyn in the Test catagory, while the fast bowler also cracked the nod in the ODI catagory.
Amla is one of five nominees for the People's Choice Award – alongside India's World Cup-winning skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara, West Indies' Chris Gayle and England’s Jonathan Trott – which will be chosen by fans from around the world.
The long lists were selected by a five-man ICC Panel chaired by former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd, with performances considered in the period between August 11, 2010 to August 3, 2011.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on September 12.
