Dhaka - Bangladesh overcame the early loss of opener Imrul Kayes to make a brisk start in the second and final Test against England at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Friday, reaching 118 for one wicket at lunch on the opening day.

Tamim Iqbal (68) and Mominul Haque (44) added 117 for the unbroken second wicket.

Left-hander Kayes (one) hit a short delivery from paceman Chris Woakes straight into the hands of Ben Duckett at point in the third over of the day after home skipper Mushfiqur Rahim had won the toss and opted to bat.

Tamim and Mominul took a bit of time to settle down but ensured England did not have many opportunities to make further inroads in the first session.

The duo launched a counter attack against some wayward English bowling and were particularly rough on debutant left-arm spinner Zafar Ansari, who has replaced off-spinner Gareth Batty in the side.

Ansari went for 36 runs in his six overs as England's spinners struggled for control.

Tamim, who did not score off the first 19 balls he faced, needed 60 deliveries to bring up his 20th half-century in tests.

The left-hander hit eight fours in his knock and was given out on 66, caught down the leg side off Ben Stokes, but he managed to overturn the umpire's decision on review with replays confirming the ball had just brushed his shirt.

Mominul was equally impressive and his innings was studded with seven hits to the fence.

The hosts added an extra slow bowler to the side that lost the first test in Chittagong, bringing in off-spinner Shuvagata Hom for paceman Shafiul Islam.

England, who won the first Test by 22 runs, drafted in paceman Steven Finn for Stuart Broad while also handing a debut to 24-year-old Ansari.
