Perth – England's Stuart Broad will take no further part in the action on the third day of the third Ashes Test on Sunday after being taken to hospital for a scan on his injured right foot.
The pace bowler was one of six batsmen to fall in the morning session as the struggling tourists slumped from 180/4 to 251 all out at the WACA, 134 runs behind Australia's first innings tally.
The 27-year-old was dismissed lbw by a full Mitchell Johnson delivery that struck him on the right boot.
Broad failed to come out to the field after the lunch break for the start of Australia's second innings and team officials said he had been taken for a scan after experiencing discomfort trying to bowl a couple of deliveries in the nets.
“Currently waiting for further scans on Broad's right foot,” the team said in a later SMS message. “He will not take the field today. An update is likely tomorrow morning.”
England's best bowler in the ongoing series with 14 wickets at an average of 25 runs apiece, Broad missed the last three matches of the 2010-11 Ashes series in Australia through injury.
Australia lead the five-match series 2-0 and England need at least a draw in Perth to keep their hopes of retaining the Ashes alive. – Reuters
