Napier - New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum won the toss and chose to bat in the third one-day cricket international against Zimbabwe on Thursday, with his team already holding a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Fast bowler Michael Bates was named to make his New Zealand debut among three changes to the team which won the second match on Monday by 141 runs.

Bates was named in place of the injured Tim Southee, while Doug Bracewell replaces Kyle Mills and Nathan McCullum was named for Dean Brownlie, who suffered a broken finger in Monday's match.

Zimbabwe made two changes, recalling opener Tino Mawoyo and fast bowler Brian Vitori in place of brothers Shingirai and Hamilton Masakadza. - Sapa-AP
