Southampton, England – West Indies were 127/5 off 23 overs in reply to England's 288/6, a deficit of 161 runs, when rain stopped play at 4.49pm local time (5.49pm SA time) in the first one-day international here on Saturday.

If the weather meant play could not resume, England would win as West Indies had needed to be 171/5 at the end of the 23rd over for victory under the Duckworth/Lewis method governing rain-affected one-day matches.

Marlon Samuels was 20 not out and West Indies captain Darren Sammy nought not out after Ian Bell had made 126 on his return to England's one-day side.
