Wellington, New Zealand – New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has ruled himself out of the home series against England next month as he continues his recovery from an alcohol problem and other personal issues.

The 28-year-old left-hander has not played international cricket for almost a year and announced in June he was taking an indefinite break.

Ryder indicated had intended to meet with New Zealand coach Mike Hesson to discuss a return against England, but his manager, Aaron Klee, said on Sunday that Ryder is not yet ready to resume his international career.

Klee said although Ryder had been in outstanding form in domestic cricket his international career remained on hold. – Sapa-AP
