Skipper Steve Smith smashed 164 Sunday, the highest one-day international score at the Sydney Cricket Ground, to lead Australia to 324 for eight against New Zealand.

Smith struck 14 fours and four sixes in his seventh ODI century after winning the toss in the first match of the Chappell-Hadlee Series.

Smith's swashbuckling knock surpassed South African AB de Villiers 162 at the SCG during last year's World Cup.
