BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Kane Williamson hit a career-best 153 not out to set up a New Zealand lead of 290 against West Indies but heavy rain stalled the visitors' progress on the fourth day of the third and final Test.

The Black Caps, 24 runs behind after the first innings, took their overnight position from 123-3 at Kensington Oval to 314-6

before showers swept across the ground. Players ran off midway through the second session and then took an early tea.

The 23-year-old Williamson, overnight 58, had brought up three figures before lunch and continued to blunt the hosts' attack after the break. The right-hander's seventh test hundred, and second of the series, was spiced with 21 boundaries.

Williamson shared half century stands with captain Brendon McCullum (25), Jimmy Neesham (51) and B.J. Watling (29).

Neesham's second half century of the match took 67 balls and included three fours and four sixes.

Pacer Kemar Roach led the West Indies attack with 4-46, his fourth wicket being his 100th test strike after taking 4-61 in the first innings. Roach, who turns 26 on Monday, is the 19th West Indian to achieve the milestone. Holder took 2-26 with his medium pace.

Roach, who claimed the two openers on Saturday, added the wickets of McCullum and Watling on Sunday.

Watling was his landmark wicket, the wicketkeeper sparring a catch to Jason Holder at backward point.

But soon afterward, the rain arrived with New Zealand well placed for a victory push on the final day. Tim Southee was unbeaten on 2.

The series is tied 1-1. – Sapa-AP
