Dunedin - Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor won the toss and chose to bowl against New Zealand in the first of three one-day cricket internationals on Friday.
Taylor said Zimbabwe were eager to use the limited-overs series to rebuild after their loss to New Zealand by an innings and 301 runs in the one-off Test match, the heaviest defeat in their Test history.
He said: “We've discussed that loss at length and we've prepared well for this match. We've put the test match behind us and we're looking forward to trying to turn things around and to play with a bit of pride today.”
New Zealand stand-in captain Brendon McCullum said he also would have bowled on winning the toss. The pitch at University Oval was well-grassed and expected to provide seam movement throughout the day. - Sapa-AP
