Triple Tour de France champion Alberto Contador.
Paris – Triple Tour de France champion Alberto Contador married fiancee Macarena Pescador Saturday in his home town of Pinto, the cyclist's agent announced.
The 28-year-old Spaniard brought an end to his season in August following a disappointing campaign in the Tour de France which he finished in fifth place behind champion Cadel Evans of Australia.
Contador aims to return to the race next year, but must first await a potentially career-changing decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The Saxo Bank rider tested positive for banned substance clenbuterol at the 2010 Tour de France, which he won, and blamed it on a contaminated steak he claims to have eaten on the race's second rest day.
Cleared by the Spanish cycling federation (RFEC), Contador is now waiting for CAS to deliberate after the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) contested the RFEC decision.
CAS is set to make an announcement regarding Contador on November 21-24.
Earlier this year Contador dominated his rivals at the Giro d'Italia to claim his second career victory in the Italian three-week stage race.
Considered the best stage racer of his generation, Contador has won six Grand Tours in total including the Tour of Spain. – Sapa-AFP
