Johannesburg - Cyclists from around the globe will converge on Cape Town this Sunday to put themselves to the test in the world's largest timed cycle race - the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

The internationally recognised race is the ultimate platform for young cyclists seeking to make a name for themselves in the sport. This year's race will see a member of newly-founded Team Sauerland NRW p/b Henley & Partners, from North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, taking to the saddle as part of the team's bid to become major competitors in the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Tour events (which includes the Tour de France).

Christop Schweizer, the team captain and German champion 2010, who turns 30 this week, is aiming to place in the top ten in the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

Schweizer was Stage Winner in the Tour of Azerbaijan, and took second place in the Tour of Taiwan, amongst many other top 10 placings in international competition.

Marco Gantenbein, a Managing Partner of Henley & Partners, the global leaders in residence and citizenship planning, has invested significantly in developing a group of German cyclists into professional athletes competing internationally. Gantenbein, along with the co-owners of the team, Jorg Scherf, who is also Team Manager, and Heiko Volkert, have brought Schweizer to Cape Town along with two seasoned professionals who will support him in the race.

Cycling has become one of the most valuable methods of sponsorship in the world today.

The sport is a global phenomenon, and is unrestricted by the seasons. Sponsors can work to develop their brand and cycling talent concurrently, 365 days a year.

“We are expecting Christop Schweizer to do well, and we look forward to bringing more members of Team Sauerland NRW p/b Henley & Partners to future Cape Town Cycle Tours, as we develop into a World Tour team in the next four to five years,” concludes Gantenbein. - African News Agency (ANA)
