Cape Town - Nolan Hoffman and Lynette Burger claimed victory in the Elite men’s and women’s categories of the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday.

Hoffman finished the 47kms race in a time of 1:01:49, and was followed home by Tyler Day and Brenton Jones in the same time.

The women’s finish was fiercely contested and looked like Cherise Stander had done enough to claim line honours but when the provisional results were made known Lynette Burger was named in first place in a time of 1:17:52, followed by Stander and Maroesjka Matthee, all three clocking the same time.

The new route for Sunday’s event was a 47km circular route starting at the Cape Town Civic Centre to the end of the M3 highway and back the same way to a slightly altered finish in Green Point, close to the Cape Town Stadium.

The massive fires which had been raging in the South Peninsula for the past few days made the original 109 kilometres route unsafe, forcing organisers to shorten it to just 47 kilometres for the first time in the 38 year history of the event.
