Johannesburg – South Africa had it's share of the spoils, but it was not all glory for the hosts at the Confederation of African Cycling Road Championships in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday.

In heated conditions it was South African star Ashleigh Moolman Pasio who added a continental champs title to her impressive list of achievements with Ethiopian Tsgabu Grmay claiming the Elite Men's title in the individual time trials of the elite men and women.

Moolman Pasio went into her event boasting the team time trial medal and added the individual gold. It was a one and two for South Africa as Heidi Dalton (SA) finished second with Aurelie Halbwachs from Mauritius third.

“Today it was a bit cooler. It was a bit windy and that made the course a bit tougher but it was still a great course and I am glad to get another win for the South African team,” she said.

It was a historic day for the Ethiopian team as Tsgabu Grmay became the first rider from the East African nation to win an elite gold medal at the continental road championships.

“It was a great race for me today and everything went perfect. I was confident that I could do well,” he said. – Sapa
