BRUSSELS, Belgium – Former Tour de France winner Andy Schleck was back in competition on Tuesday after four months out with a fractured pelvis.
“I'm still in pain but I refuse to quit,” said Schleck ahead of the Binche-Tournai-Binche race in Belgium, where he was taking part after four months out of the saddle.
“I want to be completely over the pain so I can train five or six hours per day over the winter,” said Schleck, who suffered the injury when blown off his bike at the Criterium du Dauphine in early June.
The Radio Shack rider, awarded the 2010 yellow jersey after the disqualification of Spain's Alberto Contador for a doping violation, is targeting one-day classics but is also due to race the Tour of Beijing from October 9-13. – Sapa-AFP
