LONDON – Olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins will return to action for Team Sky in this week's Tour of Poland.

Wiggins withdrew from May's Giro d'Italia with a knee injury and chest infection which ruined his hopes of defending his 2012 Tour de France title.

But the 33-year-old, a four-time Olympic champion, has now recovered sufficiently to get back in the saddle at the Tour of Poland, with Team Sky listing him in the official race squad on their website.

Wiggins is joined in the squad by fellow Britons Luke Rowe and Ben Swift, Colombian duo Sergio Henao and Rigoberto Uran and American Danny Pate.

The first two stages of the Polish event, won last year by Italian Moreno Moser, take place in Italy on Saturday, with the finish coming in a 37km time trial in Krakow on August 3.

In Wiggins' absence, his Team Sky colleague Chris Froome won this year's Tour de France and was crowned champion in Paris on Sunday. – Sapa-AFP
