Uefa are demanding an investigation after a dossier smearing their president Michel Platini was sent to newspapers across Europe — apparently from Fifa headquarters.

The document entitled ‘Platini: Skeletons in the closet’ was distributed anonymously and questions the Frenchman’s suitability for the role of Fifa president.

Platini is the front-runner to succeed Sepp Blatter at Fifa, with the election scheduled for February.

A Uefa spokesman said: ‘I can confirm that Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino has sent a letter of complaint to Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke.

‘We have asked Fifa to investigate the origin of this article because we are concerned by reports of an alleged smear campaign.’

The file suggests Platini is not fit to be Fifa president because he voted for Qatar’s controversial 2022 World Cup bid.

Blatter announced in June he was standing down in the wake of the corruption scandals that have hit Fifa.
