Chonburi, Thailand – Masters champion Bubba Watson said Sunday he is desperate to win another major, with a defence of his Augusta crown in front of his newly-adopted son topping the wish-list.
Speaking after coming joint-second at the Thailand Golf Championships to South African Charl Schwartzel – the man who handed him his green jacket at Augusta in April – Watson vowed to challenge in the big events next year.
The Masters was the first major of his career, an event he won in spectacular fashion in a playoff victory over South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen.
It was an occasion soaked in emotion for Watson – he and his wife Angela had just adopted a baby son Caleb.
“Any Major is good,” he said of his targets in 2013. “Just ask any golfer and they will say the same.
“I'm looking forward to returning to Augusta. My son will be there. We got him a week before I won the Masters so it will be his first time back.
“He won't know what the Masters would mean but it would be great to have him with us.”
Straight after his Masters win, Watson eschewed the usual rounds of celebrations, media demands and talkshows and instead returned home to Florida be with his wife and son.
Watson ended a gruelling season on 14-under in Thailand on Sunday after a scorching seven under final round, but still well short of Schwartzel who cruised to an 11-shot win. – Sapa-AFP
