Adilson Da Silva moved into contention during the second round of the Vodacom Origins of Golf event at Selborne Hotel.
Johannesburg– He hit all but one of the fairways and all the greens in regulation on Thursday, so it was small wonder that Adilson Da Silva was in contention in the second round of the Vodacom Origins of Golf event at Selborne Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate.
The 40-year-old Brazilian, who lives Ballito, carded a six-under-par 66 to be one stroke behind Doug McGuigan ahead of the cut in the 54-hole R600,000 tournament. Both men had bogey-free rounds.
“You just need to keep yourself out of trouble here when we get lucky with the weather like this,” said Da Silva.
“I missed one fairway and I hit all of the greens which was quite nice.”
On a windless day, with soft greens after some soaking drizzle the day before, Da Silva and McGuigan were able to fire at the pins.
“The greens were running a little bit better this morning,” Da Silva said.
“Yesterday afternoon, they were bouncing around a little, but today they were stunning.”
McGuigan, like Da Silva, hit all the greens in regulation, and made the birdie putts that came his way on his way to the lead.
The round of the morning belonged to Mark Williams, who, while playing in a tournament for the first time with a long putter, managed to turn it into something of a magic wand on his way to an eight-under-par 64.
