Sishen, Northern – Trevor Fisher Jnr. claimed back-to-back victories on the Sunshine Tour when he won the Vodacom Origins of Golf tournament at Sishen Golf Club on Friday.

Fisher Jnr. followed up his win at the Wild Coast Sun last week with a playoff victory over Christiaan Basson at Sishen on Friday.

Both players finished 54 holes tied at 14 under, and Fisher Jnr. took the title with a birdie in the playoff.

“It's always nice to win. Last week was nice because it was at the coast, and to follow it up is always difficult. So I'm very chuffed. But I didn't think I was going to win coming down the last five holes.”

Not many could see beyond a victory for Basson, who was two clear with three holes to play.

Fisher Jnr. eagled the par-five 15th and birdied 16, but Basson still had his two-shot cushion playing 18.

Fisher Jnr. put his approach into 18 about 15 feet from the hole, and Basson found the back of the green. Basson then showed the first signs of the pressure getting to him when he hit his first putt about 10 feet past the hole. Fisher Jnr. holed his putt for birdie and a 66, and Basson missed his par putt for a 65.

In the playoff, Fisher Jnr. again hit his approach to almost the same position, while Basson hit his left and long, stopping inches short of the water. Fisher Jnr. then took the title with another birdie.

“I bleed for Christiaan, because I've been in his situation a few times where you've got a lead and somebody snatches it away from you,” said Fisher Jnr.

“The eagle on 15 was a big swing for me, even though Christiaan made birdie there. Then the first putt on 18 was perfect. You don't sink them all the time so it's nice when they go in. Christiaan was putting so well that I was surprised when he missed his putt to get me into the playoff.” Doug McGuigan took third place on 12 under with a final round of 66. – Sapa
