JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s Dean Burmester carded a third-round 6-under 66 to move into contention at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Saturday.

After finishing as the top local player at the SA Open last week, Burmester kept up his good form to get to 11-under after three days in a share of seventh, two off the lead held by England’s Tyrrell Hatton on 13-under-par.

Burmester, ranked 167th in the world, carded three birdies on the first nine. On the back nine, Burmester reeled off birdies on 10, 11 and 13 before his only drop shot of the round on the par-three 15th.

A birdie on the 18th finished off the round in style for Burmester, who will be hoping to win his maiden title on the European Tour on Sunday. The 27-year-old has six Sunshine Tour titles to his name.

SA’s top-ranked player at 17th in the world, Branden Grace, finds himself on 9-under after three rounds.

Grace fired a third round 3-under 69 to move into a tie for 17th place, four shots behind.

Jaco van Zyl, who won a BMW i8 last week at the SA Open for a hole-in-one at the par-three 17th at Glendower Golf Club, signed for a third round 5-under 67 to move up to 7-under overall and 26th place.

Thomas Aiken was a further shot behind on 6-under in a share of 33rd.
