MALELANE: Pedro Ramseyer, one of the European Tour's best known caddies who used to work for Seve Ballesteros, has died here - apparently from a heart attack.

The 60-year-old Argentinian was in Malelane for the Alfred Dunhill Championship, where he was caddying for Spain's Carlos Pigem.

Ramseyer was sharing a room in a bed and breakfast with veteran South African caddie Basil van Rooyen who now works for Thomas Aiken. They had a morning tee time on Thursday while Ramseyer and Pigmen were scheduled to play in the afternoon. When Van Rooyen arrived back at the B&B he found Ramseyer, who was still in bed, had passed away.

"I can't believe this has happened and I was still in shock when I teed off this morning and it was very tough to concentrate," said

Pigem. "It's very sad. I am going to do my best to do a good tournament for him."

Pigem is doing well, and shot 69 Thursday to be on seven-under-par 137 overall at the halfway mark and not too far off the lead.

Besides working for Ballesteros, Ramseyer caddied for several of Spain's top professionals as well as Argentina's Eduardo Romero.
