Just be consistent, McDonald tells Ajax

Consistency. That is the word Ajax Cape Town coach Rob McDonald must be drumming into his squad before they run on to the Newlands turf to take on Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday afternoon (3pm).

It has been an up-and-down season for Ajax. A season in which they have won the Rothmans Cup, but are still languishing in 11th spot on the league table.

A season in which they have produced mesmerising football one week and the stuff of mediocrity the next.

In midweek, Ajax turned on the charm to demolish Ria Stars 4-0.

And in that match they showed what they are capable of doing. It was a wonderful and entertaining brand of football.

The big question is: can they do it again?

Ajax have struggled with consistency and that is perhaps the major hurdle facing new coach McDonald as he contemplates not only the rest of this season but also his approach for the next.

Striker Shaun Permall scored two goals against Ria and also scored when Ajax played to a 1-1 draw against Kampala City Council in Uganda in a Caf Cup match.

Strike partner Tauya Mrewa and Ajax captain Eddie Dinha were in the Zimbabwean squad that played against Bafana Bafana, but both have returned for Sunday's match against Celtic.

So too has leftback David Kannemeyer who was in the Bafana squad.

Celtic are facing relegation and the only way for them to stand a slight chance of avoiding the drop is to win each of their remaining three games.

And that's the danger facing Ajax on Sunday.
