Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula is alleged to have impregnated a 27-year-old North West woman with whom he had a one-night stand.

Now Mbalula is accusing the woman of extortion after she allegedly demanded R40 000.

The Sunday Independent has seen some of Joyce Omphemetse Molamu’s SMSes to Mbalula in which she claims to have received R10 000 from Mbalula.

She also claims to be pregnant and wants to keep the child. Mbalula is married with two children.

The impending scandal has caused much concern within the ANC as Mbalula is a candidate of the ANC Youth League for the secretary-general’s position next year, when the ruling party convenes its elective conference in Mangaung.

The allegations also undermine ANCYL president Julius Malema’s one-boyfriend, one-girlfriend campaign which is aimed at reducing the spread of HIV and Aids in the country.

One SMS reads: “Hi, were u able to attend to my other request today like u said u wld? I spent the whole day in bed, I’m not feeling well. I did not get the bank SMS notification.”

Another SMS from Molamu reads: “Gettin out of yo life wit pleasure, gvn u back yo R10k with pleasure. But I’m keeping my child, I’ll survive! I dnt wana speak to u anymore.”

In another SMS she says: “We spoke bat ths on Monday, why wld I lie about being pregnant. I’ll wait 4 u to open yo case, gv u my medical report & i will not terminate ths pregnancy.

“Yo R10k is still in my account, I’ll gv it back to u. U & I will jst meet u @ maintance court afta 9months, I’ll gladly gv u a dna test & im nt stupid to go tell any reporters abt my personal life. I will still keep it to myself & u didn’t gv me R40k u deposited R10!”

The Sunday Independent has not seen Mbalula’s responses to these messages.

When contacted by The Sunday Independent for comment, Molamu said: “No comment. Don’t call me,” before hanging up.

Meanwhile, Mbalula’s lawyer Themba Langa said he planned to open an extortion case this week. - Sunday Independent
