New Zealand all-rounder Craig McMillan on Wednesday announced his retirement from international and first-class cricket for health and personal reasons.
McMillan, 31, has battled diabetes since he was 15 and said he was no longer able to stand the demands of international tours.
"I have decided that the time is right for me to retire from cricket to spend more time with my family, as well as look after my health, as I have had ongoing issues related to diabetes," McMillan said.
"I feel that the past season has been one of the best of my cricket career and I am happy to be retiring on a really positive note."
In spite of his health concerns, McMillan is considering playing in the breakaway Indian Cricket League which may begin later this year.
McMillan made 55 test appearances for New Zealand between 1997 and 205, scoring 3,116 runs at an average of 38.46. He scored six centuries and 19 half centuries.
His flamboyant style was more suited to limited-overs internationals in which he scored 4,707 runs with three centuries and 28 half centuries. - Sapa-AP
