Johannesburg – Athletics South Africa appointed a seven-member ad hoc committee on Monday to run the sport for the next three months.

The committee would be chaired by Daan du Toit, and also included Colleen McNally, Sam Mlangeni, Mike Fraser, Paul van der Merwe, Brandon du Plessis and George Lamb.

International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) representative Cheikh Thiare confirmed that elections for a new executive would be held on May 24.

“The seven members of the ad hoc committee have been nominated by the whole South African athletics family,” Thiare said.

The election process ahead of the special general meeting in May would be monitored by the global governing body.

Thiare found that the sport had come to a standstill due to long-running conflict between administrators, after meeting with both factions at the weekend.

He recommended an ad hoc committee be elected to take the sport forward. – Sapa
