Chad le Clos’s “baby” brother may only be 15 years old, but he has his sights set on beating the Olympic gold winner.

For the first time last night, Jordan le Clos competed against Chad at the South African National Aquatic Championships at the King’s Park Pool, in Durban.

Jordan competed in the third heat of the men’s 400m individual medley, to win through to the finals.

There he met brother Chad, placed sixth, and was elated at doing so. Chad won, of course.

The two were asleep when contacted by the Daily News this morning. Their father, Bert, said Chad was proud and happy that Jordan had reached the finals.

He said while Jordan still had a long way to go to compete at Chad’s level, “He’s showing a lot of promise and Chad is there to support him along the way”.

Bert said many swimming coaches were surprised Chad had competed in eight events in the championships and was still able to perform at such a high level.

Chad won the 100m freestyle in 49.83sec – just shy of the Commonwealth qualifying time of 48.93.

He also won the 400m medley in 4:14.81, which was within the Commonwealth Games qualifying time of 4:18.99. - Daily News
