Johannesburg – Olympian Chad Ho will lead the charge, spearheading the men's field at the two-day SA National Open Water Championships, according to Swimming South Africa (SSA).
More than 200 swimmers would be vying for the various crowns at Eikenhof Dam in the Western Cape this weekend, SSA confirmed in a statement on Friday.
Ho became the first South African to win a medal in the five-kilometre open water swim at a major global event when he secured bronze at the 2009 Fina World Championships in Rome.
Having recently won his fourth consecutive Midmar Mile title, Ho seeks to continue his dominance in local open water swimming when he competes in the men's 14 years and Over 10km race.
Fellow Olympian Troyden Prinsloo, who came second at the Midmar Mile, is also in the line-up, SSA confirmed.
Participants at the national championships will be eligible for selection for the 15th Fina World Championships in Barcelona in July. – Sapa
