Le Clos wins second World Championships medal

Cape Town - Chad le Clos claimed his second medal at the 2016 Fina Short Course World Championships on Thursday when he claimed silver in the 200 metres freestyle.

Le Clos finished in a time of 1:41.65, behind Korea's Taehwan Park and ahead of Russia's Aleksandr Krasnykh. Park's time of 1:41.03 set a new games record, while Krasnykh posted a time of 1:41.95.

The Durbanite opened his medal account at the Ontario event on Wednesday, when he claimed gold in the 200m butterfly. He claimed gold in both events at the previous World Championships in 2014, where he also won the 100m and 50m butterfly events.

Le Clos, a four time Olympic and four time Long Course World Championships medalist, has now taken his personal tally at the Short Course World Championships to seven gold and two silver medals. He could compete in three other finals before the event of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the USA women’s 4x50m medley relay team set the first record of the championships on Thursday. The quartet, formed by Alexandra de Loof, Lilly King, Kelsi Worrell and Katrina Konopka, finished in a time of 1:43.27. The previous record of 1:43.27 was set by Denmark in 2014.
