Nkhasi sets pace in 10km peace race

Cape Town – Displaying a remarkable turn of speed to outclass a quality line-up on Sunday, Mamakoe Nkhasi charged clear to win the men’s 10km Peace race at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon in Green Point.

Nkhasi covered the distance in 00:28:28 to take the title, with Sibusiso Nzima settling for a second position, crossing the line in 00:28:42 behind the winner. Third place went to Sibabalwe Jongolo who completed the race in 00:29:02.

The women’s race was won by Helaia Johannes who completed the event in 00:32:44. She finished 1 min 35secs clear of Lebo Phalula who grabbed the second spot in 00:33:25, with Alina Armas securing the third position in 00:34:15.

The popular 10km Peace run, forming part of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon weekend festival, attracted a large field of 10 000 participants.
