‘Usain Bolt on water’ delivers gold

WINDSOR, England – Living up to the tag of “Usain Bolt on water” hasn't been easy for unassuming British kayaker Ed McKeever, a man of few words from England's West Country.

He proved Saturday, though, that he is the closest thing canoe sprint has to Bolt by blazing to gold in his sport's fastest and newest Olympic event, the 200-meter K-1.

McKeever said with a half-smile that “I'm more willing to accept that tag line now,” adding that “luckily I have the gold medal to go with it.”

The final day of the canoe sprint regatta also saw Lisa Carrington win the women's K-1 200, becoming New Zealand's first female medalist in the sport.

Hungary finished top of the medals table for the first time since 2000. – Sapa-AP
