Hamburg - McLaren-Mercedes are not interested in hiring Michael Schumacher for their Formula One team once his contract at Ferrari expires in 2002, DaimlerChrysler senior official Juergen Hubbert said.

"I can not imagine this happening, the issue has been discussed too much," Hubbert told the Handelsblatt economics paper in an interview made available to Deutsche Presse-Agentur prior to Monday's publication.

Two-times world champion Schumacher has been linked to Mercedes for years, but Hubbert said the more likely scenario in the future will be the hiring of his younger brother Ralf Schumacher, who is currently under contract at Williams-BMW.

Hubbert also told Handelsblatt that DaimlerChrysler planned to stay involved in F1 racing for a long time and added that the sport had a bright future in general. - Sapa-DP
