The Sharks will be without Beast Mtawarira for a few months.
The Sharks may be without the services of Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira for up to four months, team doctor Ewoudt van der Linde warned this week.
“It was a bad injury and it looks like he may be out for longer than expected,” he said.
Mtawarira fractured his ankle and also suffered ligament damage and had a plate and screws inserted last Saturday, as he begins an arduous rehabilitation campaign.
His absence is a significant blow to the Sharks as they enter the longest Super Rugby season yet.
“It was a freak injury and it is a pity because we have had a good pre-season,” Van der Linde lamented.
Mtawarira, renowned for his explosive runs, will be given all the necessary time to ensure he heals adequately, Van der Linde explained.
“As long as there are no complications, we are quite confident that he will make a full recovery,” he added.
The Sharks opted to stay in Durban and work among themselves this year, instead of their annual trek to Cape Town to play in a “Tri-Series” of friendlies with the Stormers and the Lions.
“We changed things a bit this year, and it was also nice to have all the Boks with us. Since there was no end-of-year-tour, we were able to get in some tough strength work in November and then a lot of endurance work through December,” the doctor continued.
While the loss of Mtawarira was a setback, Van der Linde had more positive news about other Bok stars carrying various knocks.
“Willem Alberts and Jean Deysel are healing nicely, and it looks like they could both miss only two or three games at the start of the campaign,” he said.
With the powerful Mtawarira on the sidelines, coach John Plumtree will surely welcome the news of his two enforcers in the pack. Alberts was a revelation during last year’s ultimately doomed World Cup campaign, while the combative Deysel shone during the Sharks’ run to the Currie Cup final.
The Sharks, who had an internal trial match on Friday, will next meet Boland on Friday night, before squaring up to the Southern Kings in their final Super Rugby tune-up. – Sunday Tribune

weight loss - one other major reason for putting on weight is incorrect food intake. Generally, people who have gained excess weight don’t wish to cook healthy meals for themselves as they lack time, thereby get the habit of munching anything they like. www.1wallmart.comcategory.php?id_category=25 Poor quality food, fast food, hot, oily and fast foods are rather harmful for their well being as well as form one of the main causes for extra weight. No exercise also adds their weight and this further creates several serious health problems like high blood pressure, high cholesterol level, pain in joints, heart attack etc . Therefore, it is critical to be sleek and strong if you would like to take pleasure in your life for a bit longer time. Is there any excellent weight loss formula that can help to shed pounds within a short interval of time?
