Sydney – The Blitzbokke wrapped up their Sydney Sevens leg with a 26-12 defeat to Fiji in the third place/bronze play-off match here on Sunday.

The Fijians raced out to a 21-0 lead and despite a comeback, the Blitzbokke coudn’t overturn the deficit as Fiji ran out comfortable winners to claim third place.

New Zealand will take on Australia in the final.

After reaching the final last week where they lost to New Zealand in Wellington after the final hooter, the Blitzbokke got their Sydney campaign off to a flying start with a 33-7 win over Scotland. They later held off Kenya 26-19 to claim top spot in Pool B.

A 26-0 thumping of Argentina followed in the quarter-final, setting up a clash with hosts Australia in the semi-final.

The Blitzbokke, however, could not repeat their success in Wellington as they crashed to a 12-7 loss to their Aussie foes.

The defeat meant the Blitzbokke had nothing but pride left to play for in the bronze final against Fiji.
