Brumbies hang on to beat Waratahs

Sydney – The ACT Brumbies moved five points ahead of the second-placed Queensland Reds in the Australia conference of Super 15 rugby with a 19-15 win over the New South Wales Waratahs on Saturday, the team's first victory in Sydney in 10 years.

The Brumbies led 9-5 at halftime and scored their only try through Henry Speight, while Zack Holmes and Jesse Mogg kicked two penalties each. Berrick Barnes and Tatafu Polota-Nau crossed for Waratahs tries in the team's 11th loss in 15 matches this year.

The Waratahs play defending champions the Reds in the final round next weekend, with the Brumbies hosting the Auckland Blues. The Reds faces an uphill battle to qualify for the six-team playoffs. – Sapa-AP
