London - Eddie Jones has spiced up the countdown to the RBS 6 Nations by saying he is happy for his England side to be labelled as arrogant.

England take on Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday, and the Scots are never slow to accuse the Auld Enemy of considering themselves superior.

But new England coach Jones insisted yesterday: ‘Arrogance is only bad when you lose. If you are winning and you are arrogant, then it is self-belief. When you lose it is being arrogant. We are a side that is going to prepare well for Test matches, we’re going to believe we can win Test matches and we’re going to believe that we are going to be the best team in the world. Now, if that’s being arrogant then it is being arrogant.

‘To me, it is belief about what we can be. I am quite happy for the players to talk about that because that is the way we are going to think and prepare.’
