Sydney – Former Wallabies winger Clyde Rathbone is attempting a Super 15 rugby comeback with the ACT Brumbies aged 31 after his international career was derailed by injuries and depression.

Rathbone played 26 Tests for Australia and 52 matches for the Brumbies before retiring prematurely in 2009 after a series of groin, knee, hamstring and facial injuries. He revealed in February he had also had a life-long battle with depression.

Brumbies officials confirmed on Monday that Rathbone is training with their squad in the hope of winning a contract for the 2013 Super 15 season.

South African-born Rathbone captained his birth country to victory at the 2002 Under-21 World Cup under current Brumbies and former Springboks coach Jake White. – Sapa-AP
