Johannesburg – Lions scrumhalf Michael Bondesio and Lionel Mapoe will be out of action for approximately six weeks following injuries, the club announced on Monday.

Preceding the 21-20 victory over the Cheetahs in their Super Rugby opener on Saturday, Bondesio sustained a grade two quad strain in Friday's captain's run training session.

Mapoe strained his right hamstring during Saturday's match in Bloemfontein, as the Johannesburg side were dealt a serious blow to their backline.

Anthony Volmink and Elton Jantjies, who were recovering from shoulder injuries, continued to make solid progress and will be considered for this weekend's Vodacom Cup warm-up game against the Pumas. – Sapa
