Johanensburg - Flyhalf Elton Jantjies is on the verge of joining Japanese club NTT Shining Arcs, after the Golden Lions accepted his loan transfer request, the franchise said on Tuesday.
“Through this opportunity, Elton will be able to gain new, valuable experience abroad,” Lions chief executive Rudolf Straeuli said in a statement.
“It will also be a good opportunity to give young, up-and-coming players within the club structures, a chance to fast-track their careers.”
With Marnitz Boshoff set to become the first choice flyhalf, Straeuli said both parties would benefit from the arrangement.
“Young players will benefit immensely from stepping in as understudies to the current incumbent, Boshoff, during the Currie Cup.”
Jantjies reaffirmed his commitment to the Lions and said he was looking forward to widening his horizons.
“I am looking forward to playing overseas as it has always been something I have wanted to do. I know I can gain experience that I can bring back with me,” he said.
“The arrangements are being handled by my management company and we will only look to finalise the deal within the next week but I am still 100 percent committed to the Lions.
“I am looking forward to a successful last few games in this year's Super Rugby competition.”
Should the move be completed, Jantjies would return to the Lions in February, ahead of the 2015 Super Rugby tournament.
