Eastern Cape team the Southern Kings will compete in the Super Rugby competition in 2013, the SA Rugby Union (Saru) confirmed on Friday.

Saru said the other South African teams in the cross-continental competition would be confirmed only after proposals from provinces were considered at a meeting in March.

“The decision to include the Southern Kings in the 2013 Vodacom Super Rugby tournament was unanimously confirmed by the members,” Saru CEO Jurie Roux said after the national governing body's special general meeting in Cape Town.

“We will now look at the options to identify the other entrants to the competition, which will include further discussions with our Sanzar partners on the possibility of including a sixth South African team in the competition.” – Sapa

what? and make SA an even bigger laughing stock. kings got their collective butts really and trully whipped by boland...should not boland be in the super competition? kings are in 'B' Section where they will remain. this is a political decision no doubt, pressure from certain connected individuals in EC. sorry but solly must be a pretty poor coach judging by the results.

This seems to me a very unfair practice that is allowed by SARU to benefit Snorre who has a major share in the franchise. Why do they not have a relegation playoff system like any other normal sports body? This should be something that must happen at the end of the Super season. All current franchises playing in the Super rugby have contracts with their players. Who will reimburse the loosing rugby franchise for the expenses they have occured in planning their Super season. Very poor show.

Which of the SA teams ended last in last year's Super15? Why must the Cheetahs then go, or are they not paying SARU enough. Hopefully Bankcrupcy will sort this one out for SARU
