Saru must investigate violence at gamesComment on this story
Johannesburg – The SA Rugby Union (Saru) needs to form a task team to investigate recent violent incidents at Super 15 matches, the Transformation and Anti-Racism Rugby Committee said on Saturday.
“ TARC condemns all forms of violence and calls on SARU to address the underlying issues at play in bringing violence to the fore at rugby games,” secretary Asad Bhorat said in a statement.
“These incidences are clear signs of failures in the administration of rugby which must be urgently understood and addressed.”
Former Royal marine, Brett Williams, 29, was beaten to death at a Super 15 rugby match last month.
The court case against five men accused of the crime is pending at the Durban Magistrate's Court.
Bhorat said that maintaining security at rugby games was essential and that supporters should be guaranteed a “safe and enjoyable” experience. –Sapa
