Cape Town – The Blitzboks doubled up on their success in New Zealand, beating defending World Sevens Series champions Fiji 26-5 in the final of the Wellington leg, while playmaker Seabelo Senatla broke the South African Sevens all-time try-scoring record.

It was a tough first three minutes as the Fijians opened the scoring when Joeli Lutumailagi outpaced Senatla to go over in the left-hand corner for an unconverted try.

But Senatla, who scored his record-equaling try against Canada in the semi-final, made up for being beaten in a race by going over for the Blitzboks' first try.

The try saw the World Sevens Player of the Year score his 180th try and break Fabian Juries' try record of 179 five pointers.

The Blitzboks extended their lead two minutes into the second half as Rosco Specman got their second try right under the posts, before Ruhan Nel scored a third to take their lead to 19-5 after cutting inside two defenders and powering over the line.

Nel put the game out of reach for the Olympic gold medalists when he scored the Blitzboks' last try under the posts, making their first cup win in Wellington since 2002 even sweeter.
