Cape Town - An Apartheid-era Springbok has called for a boycott of South African Rugby .

Former Bok prop Ockie Oosthuize took to Facebook, asking “shareholders, players, rugby supporters, sponsors, etc.” to “withdraw their participation, attendance and involvement from the game”.

Oosthuizen, who was part of the team that was the target protests on the infamous tour of New Zealand in 1981, adds: “I feel there is only one way … is an overall boycott, especially at a Test match!

“It will very quickly make SARU… realise that the game needs to be … free of political interference!”

The Daily Voice found a Facebook page called Boycott South African Rugby that used Oosthuizen’s post to rally support for their cause.

Saru, though, are unconcerned by former Bok Oosthuizen, who owns Molenvliet wine farm in Stellenbosch, and his supporters.

A representative told Daily Voice: “We don’t comment on the various opinions people have on rugby matters.”
