Cape Town - Thelo Wakefield has been re-elected as the president of the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU).

The WPRFU held their 24th annual general council meeting and elections at Newlands rugby stadium on Monday night and Wakefield was re-elected unopposed by the voting delegates, which were made up largely of the more than 90 clubs within the province. The 64-year-old Wakefield, who was previously the Stormers and WP team manager and then deputy president of the union, was first elected as president in 2012 and will now continue as president for his final three-year term.

The WPRFU deputy president John Bester - who has also been a Cricket South Africa administrator in the past- was re-elected unopposed on Monday night as well.

Zelt Marais was once again elected as the vice-president of the WPRFU on Monday night while the rest of the executive committee remained largely unchanged.

There is only one new face on the committee in the shape of Ronald Bantom, a veteran rugby administrator. Bantom has served on various provincial and national rugby structures previously, particularly in junior rugby. He has been involved in organisations such as the SA Schools Rugby Association and United School Sport Association of South Africa (Ussasa), and is a long-standing principal of Kasselsvlei Comprehensive High School in Bellville South.

Bantom replaces Nadir Isaacs on the WPRFU executive committee. Wakefield thanked Isaacs for his contribution.

The convenor of the Springbok selectors, Peter Jooste, remains part of the WPRFU executive committee.
