(Fom left) Jean de Villiers, John Smit and Victor Matfield show off the hi-tech Springbok rugby jersey they'll be wearing at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
It's not so much sports clothing as green armour: the new Springbok rugby jersey that will be worn by Peter de Villiers's men at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand later this year has been hailed by its maker as the strongest it has yet made, with the latest fabric technology and a new Loop 21 collar design.
The jersey has gold detailing and historic victory dates on the right arm, while its construction and fabric positioning “improve player's ability to evade tackles and provide position support to enhance movement”, says sportswear specialist Canterbury.
The Loop 21 neckline has been tested to destruction at Loughborough University's Progressive Sports Technologies institute, while temex and Lycra Sport fabric are combined to improve sweat evaporation and help the jersey keep its shape under tension.
Canterbury CEO Chris Stephenson commented: “The new kit is our most sophisticated to date; we had to make a tougher yet lighter jersey for the World Cup. It's our privilege to support the Springboks in the best way we can, with what we believe is the best jersey a player can wear. We look forward to seeing them in action in New Zealand later this year.”
SARU boss Jurie Roux said: “The Springboks were extensively involved in the design and testing of the jersey and they were more than happy with the outcome. A rugby jersey is one of the key tools of a player's trade and having one that works to give them that fractional advantage on the field is another way of maximising their ability to perform.”
Fans can buy the RWC 2011 Jersey from www.canterburysa.co.za as well as selected retailers from June 29.

Apparently the Wallaby emblem will also be moved to the sleeve, as only three emblems are allowed on the front according to World Cup rules. I personally think this is BS, as the WC logo could rather have been placed on the sleeves. We know it's the World Cup, we don't need the logo there to show us that it's the World Cup. Now some nations have to lose a big part of their pride due to the freaking WC logo. Shame on you Rugby World Cup!

Rather take the protea of! Beyond me how people still support the bank that sponsors the boks. What a load of k@k

That's it, I'm converting, the Wallabies, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Wales, France and every other country you can think of is going to wear their national logo on the chest, this is shocking discrimination against our national heritage!!!

Looks like a over decorated Christmas tree with all the logo's. By the RWC in 2015, the Springbok logo will have disappeared altogether. I much prefer my current NZ All Black jersey.

Our new Springbok Rugby World Cup Jersey is designed for the Superheroes that our national rugby team is ahead of the Final Whistle in New Zealand this year! Our new rugby jersey looks so mean, that the Incredible Hulk and Green Lantern have nothing on our boys! Whoever is not proud to be a South African and Springbok Rugby supporter will battle to contain the power of the Green and Gold when you lay eyes on the right arm’s gold detailing and historic 1995 and 2007 World Cup Championships’ victory dates on the right arm and the Springbok emblem on the left arm which will take time getting used to it, but the sense of immerse pride remains undeniable. It feels awesome being a South African today! www.vivabokke.com

well fellas, if you object to the bok being on the sleeve and the price (it will be exhorbitant) the dont buy the garment. i think that all the jerseys will have the WC 2011 logo on right chest and country badge on left chest which means the bok moves to the arm. sad but that how it happens for the WC. anyway i wont be buying one because the property market is down and the bank wont give me a 2nd mortgage to pay for the shirt.

Only reason the "BOK" is on the sleeve, is that the National Colours HAVE TO BE on the left breast, RWC Logo on the right. "BOK" had to end up on the sleeve. Springbok will be back on the Jersey after the RWC! Aussies have the Wallaby on the left sleeve too, as it too is not the National Emblem! So keep your shorts on guys... no need to panic! Tee... in your dreams... Springboks will ALWAYS be known as the Springboks...INTERNATIONALLY!

So long as we still have the Springbok emblem on the jersey and the commentators still call us Bokke that ok! If we lose our Springbok it will be woeful and certain injustice to heritage and the the history of rugby. Lets hope a small compromise is not the beginning of the end!

Well if we are going to put the protea emblem on the shirts of the cricket team and now the SPRINGBOKS...why not put it on the Bafana-Bafana shirts as well!!!!!!

The Springbok emblem always moves to the left arm with the World Cup jersey to make way for the WC logo. Was the same in 2007. None WC jerseys still have them
