Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey is in intensive care after suffering three heart attacks on Tuesday morning, a report says.

According to Kickoff.com, Tovey had to be repeatedly resuscitated and is recovering in a Durban hospital.

Tovey is the second Bafana veteran reported to be fighting for his life after John 'Shoes' Moshoeu was said to be in a critical condition in a Gauteng hospital.

On Tuesday rumours circulated about whether “Shoes” was dead, but his manager Glyn Binkin set the record straight.

Binkin tweeted: “Good to see Shoes Moshoeu smiling with family & friends at the hospital. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Onwards and upwards!!”

In a following tweet, Binkin added: “Please let’s all respect Shoes and his family and their privacy at this time and let’s please be responsible in our comments.”

Last weekend, the Sunday Sun reported that the football star had been admitted to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital three weeks ago.
