Ellis names Banyana squad to play Egypt

Johannesburg - Interim Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has named the squad to play Egypt in a friendly match on October 22 as part of preparations for the Women Africa Cup of Nations championships scheduled for Cameroon from November 19 to December 3.

Following the departure of coach Vera Pauw, Ellis has been named as the coach and will be assisted by Maude Khumalo while Sheryl Botes will be the technical advisor.

The Women Africa Cup of Nations will be played in Cameroon's capital of Yaounde and Limbe. Banyana are in Group A, together with hosts Cameroon, Egypt and Zimbabwe while Group B consists of Nigeria, Mali, Ghana and Kenya.

“I am excited about this project. I am looking forward to this coming week and thereafter,” said Ellis on her appointment. Ellis said she had named a balanced, competitive side.

“It is a good and well-balanced squad and I am confident will pick up from where we left off during the Olympics.”

Goalkeepers: Andile Dlamini, Yolula Tsawe, Mapaseka Mpuru

Defenders: Letago Madiba, Nothando Vilakazi, Janine Van Wyk, Noko Matlou, Astria Boks, Bambanani Mbane, Lebogang Mabatle (1992)

Midfielders: Mamello Makhabane, Amogelang Motau, Silindile Ngubane, Refiloe Jane, Nompumelelo Nyandeni, Bongiwe Thusi, Linda Motlhalo, Lebogang Rakhuduwe, Thembi Kgatlana

Forwards/ strikers: Rhoda Mulaudzi, Shiwe Nogwanya, Andisiwe Mcgoyi, Bontle Mashilo
